Dear Administrator,

We’re writing to give you more details on the future of Google Currents and the next generation of collaboration in Spaces. As we announced in February 2022Currents will no longer be available starting mid-2023.

If you want us to migrate your content and communities from Currents to Spaces, you must opt in from the Admin console before December 31, 2022.

Note: For more information about Spaces, see the Navigate hybrid work blog post.

What does this mean for my organization?

If your organization opts into the migration, we’ll move most of your Currents data to Spaces in early 2023. For a complete list of the data that will and will not be migrated, please refer to the Currents to Spaces feature migration article in the Help Center.

Please note that we will not migrate any Google+ posts created before the Currents GA launch in July 2020. If you’d like to retain this and any other data that we cannot migrate, you’ll need to export it.

Your organization can continue using Currents until your domain’s data is migrated in early 2023, at which point Currents will be placed in takeout-only mode. You will then be able to export your Currents data until Currents becomes unavailable in mid-2023. We’ll notify you by email at least 30 days before migrating your data and turning down Currents.

Important: If you don’t opt into the migration, you’ll still have access to Currents and the ability to export your data until Currents is turned off in mid-2023.

What do I need to do?

If you’d like us to migrate your organization’s data from Currents to Spaces, review the Currents Admin console settings in Spaces section in our Help Center for a step-by-step guide before December 31, 2022. Note that these steps include:

  1. Opting into the migration from the Admin console.
  2. Enabling Chat for your domain.
  3. Turning on Spaces for external guests.
